Lucky for your exams!!

Well, not to bad. I have started the second semester two weeks ago, so the routine of morning in lab with my research and afternoon in class, it helps a lot. I almost don't have spare time for thinking about being shortlisted. But I must confess that I am not sleeping very well. So, according to facts, I'm still hanging in there!!. :D

Let's see what happens during the week.... hope don't lose my nerves :? .

Though usually I am patient, I just can't wait for the list to show up. A lot of my plans depend on the results and I have to wait until Monday to take some action.

Good luck for tomorrow everybody!!! Try to not bring down the Vulcanus servers with so many F5!! I have hopes for all of you to be selected, unfortunately only a few lucky will be the chosen ones. My blessings to all of them, and for those that may not be selected, just keep trying harder and better, it will pay off some way or another for sure ;)

Just a little remainder: As everybody is aware of, do NOT post the link of the short-list, because of privacy rights, I or Airdawg would have to remove those links, ... please, don't make me work. (From your lazy admin)

There should be another email titled "Acknowledgement receipt VULCANUS APPLICATION".

The link is in that one so check your spam folder in the case the email is stuck there.

Hey

I have a very important question. I have been pre-assigned to an internship that sounds very interesting and I am sure I can learn a lot but for which I haven't much considered been assigned (because I didn't think my skills could fit for that XD) and because I think that some other offers suits a lot more to my skills.

If I say yes for the one I've been assign to, I am afraid that the company just consider that my skills doesn't suit and refuses me right away...
If I ask for another (with the formula:''The recommendation does not fit my studies. I do not accept. I would like to apply for placement n°:'' ), do I significantly reduce my chances ?

I am in a real doubt right now :/

Thanks for your help...

Uthermatt, I think the last year there was a guy with the exact same problem. You could search the forum for the answer and ask Reteka if he eventually was admitted (Reteka should know this because there is also a Selected section). If the guy made it to Japan, you should do exactly the same, if not, do the otherwise!

Dear Uthermatt,

You do not significantly reduce your chances by choosing a different placement. Also note that you are able to register a second choice (which can be either the suggestion of the Centre, or another placement of your choosing).

Thanks for your advice.

Indeed, I am mainly mechanical engineering student and even though I studied Material Sciences, the subject I have been assigned to is more about Chemistry. (I did some chemistry of course but not enough to be able to write a motivation letter selling my chemical skills, for sure!) That's why I think that I cannot accept the suggestion. There is 99% chances the company will choose someone with more chemical education... Even if I might be able to learn the job.
To give you an idea, I was applying more for offers like 4-9, 4-10, 4-11. I got assigned for the number 10.

But I am quite curious about how this match is done by the Vulcanus Team, I really wonder how I got assigned for this offer...

Thanks CapnJackSparrow for your advice too, I'll look also into that. (Apparently they didn't need mechanical engineers like us if they sent me to Chemistry...)

I will have to review the users to find it.

I have the same problem, I have been recommended a position that do not fit with my studies (17-1), I am an electronic engineer, and the position is a chemical engineering, that may be my worst area, anyways is really interesting (Also says a minimum of master, and I am studying a degree, not knowing if that would pose a problem).

I may keep the centre suggestion as my second option, I will have to think more into it.

I have applied exactly for the same placements. I was looking forward to being chosen for 4-10 because I meet all the requisites (I have knowledge of Fluid Dynamics - being an Aerospace engineer, I've used CFD software before - not OpenFOAM, but in the same league, etc.).

But, c'est la vie! I will do my thesis in Korea and then...I don't yet know...

I am very sad because this was my last year in which I was eligible for this Programme!

I have another question. Do we know what is actually sent to the company ? Is it only the motivation letter we are doing right now or your whole application file (CV, grades etc...) is also sent to the company ?

Thanks a lot.

AFAIK the company gets documents 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7 and the motivation letter for the company you are applying.

Could you please elaborate "not significantly reduce"

Will my application be sent right away to the company in the first batch of primary candidates, with those who had this assignment been assigned right away? Thus reduced in the sense of: "now there are more competing students for the same position"?

The second choice, I always figured, was simply if your first company doesnt work out AND if the second company didnt find one in the first batch. Thus rather unlikely. Would be great, if you could give some details.

thanks

Hi,

I'm unfortnly like you, I only receive the first email.
If I understand well, you should receive two emails.
The first to significate they have receive your application form.
The second to tell when the short-list will be given and the link to have it.

So if you haven't receive any email maybe it's about your file, it has been sent too late ?

Checked already spam folder? If not in there and everything you did was correct, maybe the application was lost during the transport :( . I want to think that they do not make the mistake of forgetting to mail someone if they receive the file.

Last year just one mail with the link. I received this time two mails, but they were the same and with the link (I believe that they send just one type of mail), and it starts with this (Followed with the link):

"PLEASE DO NOT RESPOND TO THIS EMAIL

Dear Student,

Thank you very much for your application to the Vulcanus in Japan programme.
The short-listing of the candidates will take place in Brussels by mid-February 2015."

In the application form it is stated that:
"Deadline:
20 January 2015
(latest possible postmark date)"

In Finland this means you have to take your letter to the post office or box before they empty it that day. This usually happens at 4pm or 5pm depending on the place.

I also sent my documents on the 20th and everything went fine.

Hi Michael_7

Hi Michael

I have just sent you an e-mail.
But if you are short-listed I am afraid that the time for sending your motivation letter to the host companies has finished last Friday... so I don't know if you are still in the selection process.

Good luck!!

Hello,

I am also a preselected candidate from Spain. Currently finishing my 4th year of electronics engineering. I didn´t received any email with telling me I was preselected, however, they called me yesterday from Brussels to tell me I was in and had to write my motivation letter.

ana-mondi, can you send me also the short list file to pedrogrnez@gmail.com? Thank you in advance!! :D

oh, i'm sorry, i was talking about 4-11, made a mistake :D my field is aeronautical engineering. but it seems that it's in the same building as mine (there is a RS unit here) so you might come to the same city, so prepare for boredom. our dorm in tokyo though was amazing and the work is fun too.

Ahahah ! Ok, no problem :)

4-11 is my second choice actually. I am aeronautical engineer too :p

Is the city far from everything ? Another question, do you speak Japanese at work ?

depends with whom. my supervisor refuses to speak japanese with me at work, but there's another guy with whom i'm working with and he only speaks japanes (can be hard sometimes since he uses a lot of professional terms). city is about 2 hours from tokyo by local train so it isn't that bad but still, not muh to do after work, and internet is also kinda crappy.
