Waiting for the deadline

Hi guys!

I've sent the application two weeks ago and the 17th January I've received an email from Vulcanus about the shortlist and the deadline.
I don't understand: now I'm not in the shortlist, so this means that I haven't been accepted or there's a chance that they can add me later?

Hi tinaT!
Shorltist will be published probably in mid-February. Link in the mail is just for privacy policy - list will not be published on the EU Centre website.

What does the email say?

Normal procedure is something along this:
1. You send the application
2. They gather some comittee that evaluates all applications and decides who is going to be shortlisted (this happens at around end of February if I remember correctly, you need to wait a bit)
3. You receive an e-mail about being/not being shortlisted. In case of being shortlisted you also get a list of companies and job positions that you can choose from
4. You choose 2 options and write a motivation letter for your first pick and then wait if you are accepted (waiting is the worst part of the whole process
5. If they manage to fill all the positions they want then there´s no second round, if they don´t then you will be asked to write motivation letter for your second pick and wait again
6. Best case scenario is that you´ll be accepted to your first choice, worst case scenario is that you´re not gonna be shortlisted

Basically after sending the application you need to wait for them to contact you about next steps. Last year they didn´t send us any emails about receiving application or anything like that, so basically you just wait and pray

You need to check that link on the day indicated on the email, the list of shortlisted people will appear only then

In the received email there's a link for a shortlist, but now I've noticed that refers to 2017-2018, so I think it's the shortlist of last year (hope :roll:

). Probably I got nervous for nothing! :lol:

So yes.. I just wait and pray!

Same here. After reading this post I have searched in my mail, (received, junk mail and deleted), and I haven´t received yet. My application was sent by the International Relations Office of my university. Should I be worried? :cry:

It can take some time for them to go through the applications and send the mail. And...they might not process them in order of arrival.

I think that is possible that I have received in junk mail. Thunderbird doesn´t notificate me those mail and it delete them in a week, so it is possible that this happend to me :S.

Also, the International Relations Offices of my university said me that they received the confirmation for all the documents they have sent, (we are some applicant this year). They that i should receive a mail personally, but as you said it is possible that it isnt processed yet.

PS: check junk mail everyday

Don't worry about this e-mail. Last year I only got an e-mail on late February, stating that I was shortlisted. They never sent me anything about receiving my application.

Thank you very much for your application for the above-mentioned programme.
The short-listing of the candidates will take place in Brussels by mid-February 2017.
For the result of the short-listing:
please consult the webpage ...
from 22 February, at 15:00."

Hello, guys! So I'm having an interesting day and I'm a bit frightened...

I received a call today from a foreign number (coming from Brussels). I declined it because I don't usually answer foreign calls unless I am expecting something like that. But something inside my head made me call back. AND that was a good idea because it was a call from the EU-Japan Centre. Apparently, they couldn't find my online application form (which I am sure I submitted) and asked me to fill it again. So I filled the form and soon after received a letter confirming everything is fine. A while after that I received a call coming from Luxembourg, I tried to answer but the caller cancelled and when I tried calling back, the number was busy.

SO, I don't know, all this is funny and driving me mad a bit

Anyone has similar experiences?

They JUST contacted me for the exact same issue! There must be something wrong with those google forms...

Yup, I thought this could be the case because they were reacting very calmly. The guy even said "probably there was a mistake" and I was surprised how easily he believed that I really submitted the form. I think if this was only my problem, they wouldn't bother contacting me, they would have just thrown away my application.

Hello, I also sent my documents on 19th and I checked from my post office documents reach the receiver adress on 24th but I haven’t got an email from them. I read some of you get the received mail. Should I be worried too??

In my case, as i read something about not to do it certified I didn't track the documents when sent so imagine my state... LOL

Got mine too half an hour ago. They could have at least picked the right year.

So, if I understood correctly, the final list will be 22nd Feb in 15:00 CET? The list attached there is gibberish at the time being?

I think is the last year list, because in the header, it says 2017-2018. It looks like we have to wait. As someone said above, "The waiting is the worst part".

congrats! if you have some dobut about the placement (as in: not a good fit), but there is another one, which virtually shouts "perfect matching your personal cv/profile" then change.

I mean I have one-year experience in the field I have been recommended to apply but I think there are places that fit me better. Btw, thank you for advising me!

I am just concerned because I changed my student-teacher status in the department where I was studying that field in 2015 to another one. So I am worried about they can think that it was a long time ago and that I am not more interested in that field (It is about Chemistry, in fact it is one of my passions...).

However, I think I'll apply to that placement! Thank u man!

Anyway, it is written that:

In order to protect the privacy of you and your fellow Vulcanus applicants, we will not be
uploading a list with the names of all short-listed candidates as originally planned.
Instead, by Thursday 22 February 2018, we will email each applicant informing him/her
as to whether or not (s)he has been short-listed, but without providing information on
other candidates.

Therefore we will all receive an email.
