Hi! Me too
I have a question about the 1st document to send... The signature of acknowledgement refers to the own signature or the University representative's signature?
Thank you very much

Re: VinJ 19/20 applicants
Yay, I have been short listed!
Is it just me or the suggested company doesn't really suite my studies? I'm currently taking my second cycle degree in computer science, specifically in intelligent system, and they suggested me a company that reserchers new materials for semiconductors XD
Are you also choosing another company, different from the one they suggested?

I believe it refers to University representative, as you have to sign it a row above that.

Re: VinJ 19/20 applicants
My question might be silly but : as I'm not shortlisted, if I don't do an internship in a Japanese company with vulcanus (I only have done one in a Japanese lab), will my job hunting in Japan be a lot more complicated than if I had done one? I feel really low now
I don't know if posting this here is a good idea haha

Re: VinJ 19/20 applicants
I am in the same situation here.
I think the only barrier is the Japanese language. If you speak Japanese (I mean N3/N2), it will be easier to find a job directly in Japan

Re: VinJ 19/20 applicants
Already have a N4 level and keep self studying, hope we'll manage to find one
still think knowing a Japanese working environment could be an advantage, but I guess I'm only making me feel more depressed haha
will you try next year as well?

Re: VinJ 19/20 applicants
Unfortunately, this is my last year of studies. Now I have to find an other way to go to Japan !
Wish you the best if you try again next year

Good luck I'm sure you will find one! R
Have you thought about WHV?
Thanks! If next year does not work either, I just try to get a WHV and move there ASAP!

Re: VinJ 19/20 applicants
Same here, didn't shortlisted. I'm disappointed tbh, this is my last university year soooo unless I begin another university this was my last chance.
Btw congrats to all shortlisted people
As far as I know my country doen't have WHV with japan, may I ask is there any other option for internship in japan ?

I would definitely try to change the company. I think you can just choose the company you want in the acknowledgement form, and write the motivation letter for that company. They might have made a mistake when matching you (or they are lacking people to apply for materials research?

Let us know if it worked!

One option is to do a masters in Japan. As they are trying to internationalize themselves, it's becoming easier to get in. Don't focus solely on the biggest ones since they are hyper competitive though.
Joining grad school in Japan will definitely open a thousand doors for you regarding future internships and other opportunities.

Re: VinJ 19/20 applicants
I sent my motivation letter for the matchmaking, now starts the waiting.
I think other years they sent an email saying that the matching period begins, I hope they do it this year as well!
It's funny how they still did not fix the mistake in the example to name the letter and email. I used 4 dashes.

I hope not! That seemed a very interesting internship! But if I had been studying materials I would have been very glad to be palced there !

Yeah, I'm a bit scared to refuse the internship they porposed but *fingers corssed* I might still have a chance in this other internship

Yes, they did. They said that it started th 03/15. We received the first round ended the 04/09. The matchmaking procedure ended the 04/25.

People did it in many different ways in previous years as well, I don't think it's a problem.

@filpez try to focus in other things. Check email and forum daily but try to not spend all day here. You will have plenty of time in April.

There have been a variety of posts on this in the past (some by myself) - look for that. But the gist: i changed mine back then, because it was not a good match. the other candidates are much more likely to be qualified. feel free to chose another one. you will have more competition, but also much better chance to beat that competition.

Yeah, I'm scared about that too... I saw, in other year, that it's more likely to be chosen if you stick with the original recommendation, but I felt like I was less qualified for the reccomendation than the one I choose.
Maybe I'm just stressing too much

Tbh it's the first time I apply and I'm also enrolled in the first year of the master degree, so I have at least another try (maybe other 2, if I continue on
spending too much time thinking about Vulcanus that studying for my exams ^^").

Re: VinJ 19/20 applicants
I wouldn't read too much into it. Obviously, by numbers of other applicants your chances go down by changing the offer you apply for. But its not like they roll a dice (well...sometimes they do maybe...but lets assume not). If it actually matches your background and past experiences, you chances go up...a lot. Compared to something you have no clue about.

Also the fact that, even if they end up taking you at the place they wrongly matched you up with, your experience will likely be sub optimal. I wouldn't enjoy myself researching chemical compounds as a computer scientist (or who knows, I might end up loving it and switching paths xD).

Re: VinJ 19/20 applicants
I check the forum everyday. I´m also reading again one of the best blogs about the vulcanus, (at least in Spanish).
But I´m in a emotional rollercoaster, one day I believe that I can receive it and the other I feel that it is impossible. The good thing is that I´m quite busy rigth now with the university, so I hope I wont have time to think about it.

Why might this be... Can't think of any logical reason. How do people usually find out about the forum anyway? I can't remember how I did xD Probably a google result. We should promote it somehow!!

I dont remember how I found about it. Something that "bothers" me is that I cant find anything in Twitter/Instagram. I cant find any recent blog either. About the promotion, what would be nice is that the Vulcanus in Japan team linked it in their page.
In fact, I think I remember them writing something in the forum last year.

I guess this programme is too small to appear on Twitter discussions. Unless WE talk about it, no-one else will xD.
Adding it to the website would be excellent, since this place is extremely useful for applicants.

I found the forum on a Google search, when I was thinking about applying. Actually, the whole programme isn't promoted widely (at least in Latvia). I've heard about it only once before, three years ago, when I saw a ViJ poster in my Uni.

Re: VinJ 19/20 applicants
Yeah, it's true tho... I found the forum while searching on google (I couldn't find ispiration for my motivation letter (funny, isn't it?
))
I found out about Vulcanus all by myself. I was looking for opportunities in Japan, for studying or working, and I found it on their website. When I asked my university if they had some information or if they could help me in any way, they didn't even know what it was
Also, when I recived the notice that I was shortlisted, I asked for the relationship office to sign the acknoledgment and they were like "Well, it's the first time something like this ever appened.... but let's us see what you need and we'll do what we can"
I think it's a shame that no one talks about it! Not even on instagram, facebook or youtube (well, here there's something but very old and not much "entertaining").

Re: VinJ 19/20 applicants
The very few videos that there are on YouTube of former Vulcanus participants are completely random and lacking context (like this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UMSfPX2KRBc). Its hilarious to watch, but I would love to see some better quality videos describing the experience. I'd be up for it if they take me xD

I found that video too! Very random XD
I think that I too would be eager to record video and share my experience! I tend to do a lot of videos when I travel by my self.. If I have a chance to spend a year in Japan I would for sure share every little bit of my everyday life
